Thomas Darkoak didn’t start with a blank page. He started with a table, a set of dice, and a room full of players whose only job was to poke holes in whatever world he built. For over twenty years, as a gamemaster running Dungeons & Dragons, Shadowrun, GURPS, and more, he learned the one skill that separates a story that entertains from a story that holds — worlds detailed enough to survive being questioned, and characters real enough that players forget they’re fictional.

That training built two very different books. Off the page, Thomas is Connecticut’s answer to a Highlander: properly kilted more often than not, keeping time with Mystic Pipes and Drums, and just as likely to be found hand-binding a book, tooling leather, or running a 3D printer as writing the next chapter. He’s active with the Real Men Wear Kilts community, and above all, a husband and father who built both of these worlds at the same kitchen table where his own family gathers every night.
